Yoga, Neuroscience, The Subtle Body, and Mental Health

Mental health is not confined to your head.
According to neuroscience, and to the ancient subtle body system delineated in the Tantras, the health and well being of the mind is intimately interwoven with the health and well being of the body.
In this workshop, we will dive into the latest yoga and mental health research. We will also explore cutting-edge neuroscientific findings about the gut-brain axis, interoception, inflammation, and contemplative neuroscience.
We will use this information, and the traditional Tantric chakra map, to better understand how to apply yoga practices for reducing depression and anxiety, decreasing the symptoms of trauma, and reducing addictive tendencies.
The subtle body is the key to the future of medicine. It turns our materialistic thinking on its head and asks us to expand our perspective to include a biopsychosocial-vibrational understanding of human beingness and health.
Come join me for this workshop and leave with a deeper understanding of how yoga practices are more than just exercises for increased flexibility or strength, but life skills to increase psychological health and happiness.
What you will learn
- How cutting edge neurobiologic findings affirm traditional yoga practices including mindful asana practice, breathing practices, ethics, and meditation.
- How to integrate subtle body oriented yoga practices to elicit neuroplastic changes.
- How gut-brain, inflammation, and interoception research points to the benefits of slow, mindful yoga practices for natural, low-cost, low-risk, scalable solutions to mental health challenges.
This workshop will include two yoga practice sessions (60-90 minutes) each day, plus lectures, discussions, and experiential exercises. All abilities are welcome. The weekend will also include Subtle® Yoga signatures: supportive community, kirtan and restorative practices. This is a great opportunity not only to learn about the latest science behind yoga, but also to improve your teaching skills, experience community with like-minded people, and earn 12 Yoga Alliance CEUs.
